Kishangarh Fort is in Miserable Condition


Jaisalmer. The Kishangarh fort was announced as a protected monument under the act of antiquities monument places and Antiquities Act 1961; but still it’s in very miserable condition. This fort is situated on the Indo-Pak border area of Jaisalmer district.

The walls of fort are collapsed from every place, the half broken bricks, the tower, rooms and ramparts of fort are facing the sting of negligence said Nand Kishor Sharma Historian, Jaisalmer. While seeing the condition of fort, it clearly seen that fort has not been care from a long period of time. Sharma said it is very well cleared that this neglected fort can be flake out at any moment. 

Dr Deendayal Ojha, the historic of Jaisalmer said that there was a resurgence of hope for the return of glory days of Kishangarh, but it did not happen. By seeing its plight state it is clear that it is not under remembrance for long time. In such a plight condition the Fort is feared to collapse anytime. The fact is this that even after getting the honor of “protected monument” the condition of fort is still same as before. The fort is shedding tear over its plight.

Dr Ojha said that the fort is situated around 150 kilometers far for Jaisalmer and near the border of Bhavalpur district of Pakistan. The route of ancient canton Kishangarh of Jaisalmer district comes from Deravl and Multan. Construction of this fort is done by Bute (Bhutte) Dawat Khan, also known as Dinu Khan. This is the only reason the fort was famous by the name of Deengarh. It is said that the fort has been renamed as Kishangarh, after the federal of grandsons of Dawat khan and in the period of Maharawal Mularam. This eighteenth century fort is a beautiful example of architecture structure.

Bacchaye Khan, resident of Kishangarh said that the fort is composed of two stories and is made up of brick paving. A castle and a mosque is build up in the fort and a door and well is made up in coat of fort. The design and texture of coat is symbol of Muslim culture and plenty of hills are there in this area. Only two villages are situated in this canton.

Superintendent of Archeological Conservation and Survey Department Bikaner, Kishanlal said that the chief secretary of department of art, literature, culture and archeology has announced the forts of Ghotaru, Ganeshia and Kishangarh a protected monument. He added the forts of archeological importance of Jaisalmer district has been recently tagged, including the Kishangarh fort, soon, repairment and maintenance work will start.
