Inter-Caste Marriage Support Plan Unsuccessful in Jaisalmer



From the last 5 years only 2 couples benefited by this Plan

Jaisalmer. With the aim to motivate inter caste marriage in Jaisalmer, the plan started proves unsuccessful.

Dr Seema Tanwar, Women Social Worker said that motivational money to promote this marriage has been increased 10 times from 50 thousand to 5 Lakh Rs. Interested people cannot be seen who wants to get benefited from this. It’s been 7 years that the plan has started and appreciation money has also been increased in spite of this, couples who want to get benefit from this are countless.

President of Jaisalmer Ambedkar Development Committee Dr B K Barupal said that to promote inter caste marriage, this small step was taken named as Dr Savita Ambedkar Inter Caste Marriage Support Plan hasn’t become successful and from the last 5 years only 2 couples have applied.

Former legislator G D Kalla of Jaisalmer said that due to old tradition of thinking and due to lack of awareness, this plan hasn’t become that successful and people don’t seem interested. Due to social problems and strictness in the society, this plan seems dying.


Public Relations Officer of Jaisalmer Dr Deepak Acharya said that 25 thousand Rs amount in the form of certificate on the joint name of husband and wife savings and for the purchase of important domestic products, 25 thousand Rs which makes it to total of 50 thousand Rs. This amount has been increased to 5 Lakh Rs now. Remaining rules have been kept same of the plan. Among the couple one person should be a citizen of Rajasthan. Applicant for the plan will have to present the application to district collector or district social welfare officer or district council’s chief executive officer.

Elder Social Worker of Jaisalmer Damodar Prasad Tanwar said that in-spite of the activation of the plan, district people way of thinking hasn’t changed. The reason being, even now inter caste marriage is not valued or is not considered as respectful. Joint families’ tradition also doesn’t consider such marriages. There are few youngsters of the society who ignore the traditional ways and try to get married in other caste but due to social strictness, they are unable to do so.

Himmat Singh Kaviya, Assistant Director, Social Justice and Authority Department, Jaisalmer said that to make people aware about the plan, publicity is being done. Department has increased the amount ten times but till now no applications are being received.
